ST. MARY'S DRAMA CLUB SPRING PERFORMANCE:
THE KING AND I
St. Mary’s School Drama Club presented Rodgers and Hammerstein’s THE KING AND I during the month of May. The play was directed by Ms. Ferrante, our Drama Instructor. Students in grades 5 thru 8 prepared for this exciting event at least twice a week since January. There are no words to express the success of this production. It was a fantastic performance thanks to the hard work and dedication of Ms. Ferrante, our students, and all staff and parents who volunteered in this production.
- St. Mary's Selects Ms. Debra Kennedy as the New Principal
Effective, July 1, 2011, Mrs. Debra Kennedy will be acting as the new school Principal. Our Pastor, Monsignor Robert Amey, announced to the school community this great news: "We are very fortunate to have such dedicated, talented and professional person follow in the footsteps of our outgoing principal, Sister Carol Rigali, OSF." The St. Mary's School and Parish Community gratefully welcomes Mrs. Debra Kennedy to her new position as Principal.
- St. Mary's May Procession and Crowning of Mary
St. Mary's celebrated the traditional May Procession and Crowning of Mary on Sunday, May 8. Gathered in songs of praise and devotion, St. Mary's families once again showed unity in faith and care for one another. The event ended with another traditional ice cream social for all. Sharing the same feast as Mother's Day, this year's May Procession was truly a significant event for our community. As Monsignor Amey helped us reflect in his homily, the importance of this day is that we gather to worship God for his special gift to us: our Blessed Mother Mary.

- Grandparent's Day at St. Mary's
St. Mary's students were proud to dedicate a special day to all our Grandparents on Friday, May 6. Every year, the school opens its doors in a very special way to celebrate the lives and model of our student's grandparents. Grandparents were greeted with a special breakfast prepared by our Home and School Association. They also joined the school to celebrate Mass with their grandchildren. After Mass, students invited their guests to their classrooms for a joint learning experience. The hugs and sharing experiences in the classrooms showed once again the unique caring environment which characterizes St. Mary's School.
- Blessing of the Monument for All Unborn
On April 20, 2011, Monsignor Robert Amey blessed the new Monument for All Unborn donated by the Knights of Columbus. This memorial is located at the entrance of the cemetery near the historic chapel. On behalf of all the Children of St. Mary’s Parish, the children of St. Mary’s School gathered by the monument to witness this important event. In memory of All Unborn, Monsignor Amey proclaimed Psalm 139. A peaceful prayerful moment was elevated by all those present as they listened to this beautiful psalm: “If I ascend to the heavens, you are there; if I lie down in Sheol, you are there too”. Monsignor Amey also proclaimed the Beatitudes prior to the Blessing of the Monument for the Unborn.

- Video Conferences in the Upper Hall
The 7th and 8th grade students have participated in a series of UN sponsored videoconferences dealing with Human Rights issues around the world. On March 21, we were one of 13 schools internationally to participate in these videoconferences. This day is held yearly to commemorate the sacrifices of South Africans massacred on that date in 1950.
